Help a Child - Click for FreeLaunched in October 2002, The Child Health Site focuses on saving children's lives and improving the quality of their health. Over 200,000 children die every week from preventable causes, and many millions more suffer from preventable disease, cureable blindness, landmines and other crippling accidents. Funding from the site helps an average of more than 1,000 children every day.

In less than five seconds, visitors to The Child Health Site can click on the "Help a Child - Click Here" button and, at no cost to them, save young lives and help children stay healthy. How? Each click - free to the visitor - generates funds paid by site sponsors. The majority of this funding goes to The Child Health Site's charity partners, who use the funds to:

  • distribute vitamin A, strengthening young immune systems and improving resistance to disease. Vitamin A supplementation also prevents as many as 400,000 cases of childhood blindness each year,
  • administer oral re-hydration formula to children with severe dehydration, a serious killer of children under five worldwide,
  • make a prosthesis (usually a foot or a leg) to enable child amputees to walk and lead active lives,
  • restore lost eyesight through simple surgeries that reverse blindness caused by cataracts and trachoma,
  • test pregnant mothers for HIV as a step toward preventing mother-to-child transmission of the AIDS virus.

How clicks are helping:

Year   Clicks   # Children Helped   Vitamin A for Disease and Blindness Prevention   Emergency Oral Re-hydration for Infants   Maternal HIV/AIDS Test Kits   Eye Surgery or Prosthesis
2005   26,748,688   486,339   420,188   60,305   5,350   486
2004   25,390,774   461,651   398,858   57,249   5,080   464
2003   22,869,573   542,071   468,336   67,218   5,963   542
2002   5,038,236   174,827   151,045   21,679   1,923   175

Please note that from January-March of 2003, Children International provided Premier Sponsorship to The Child Health Site that is reflected in the slightly higher donation totals seen above in 2003 over 2004.
